General Usage
Q1. How do I setup
a web browser other than Netscape or MS Explorer?
A1. From the File menu,
click on User Defaults. Next, select the Internet Link Setup folder. Under Current Browser
Location, click on the Find button. Next, instead of doing a search, click on the Browse
button located under "You Have Selected:". Now, simply search for your browser
and click on OK. You will notice your selection appear under "You Have
Selected".

Installation
Q1. When
Upgrading from a previous version, what happens to my old data?
A1. If you install your SHM 3.0 copy in the same directory as your old SHM software, SHM 3.0 will automatically detect the existence of the old data-files and will automatically convert them to the new format.
Thus, all your old data will be available in your new SHM 3.0 version.

Q2. When I
start Windows, why does the SHM window pop-up and then close?
A2. SHM Reminders by default
is installed in your Windows Startup group. Therefore, when you startup Windows, SHM
Reminders will kick in to check if there are any reminders. If there are, you will see
them in a Reminder Screen. If there are no reminders, you will just see the flashing SHM
screen. If you wish to disable this automatic SHM reminder check, simply delete the SHM
Reminders icon from your Windows Startup Group. You can always re-install it by copying
the Icon from your Smart Home Manager program group to the Startup group in the future.

Q3. How do I
transfer SHM Files from one computer to another?
A3. First install SHM in
your new computer. Next, copy all the files from your SHM directory in your old computer
to your SHM directory in your new computer. Since some of the files are larger than 1.44
Mbyte, you will have to use a utility software or a tape backup system to copy and
transfer all the files. SHM does not allow you to use its backup feature to backup to a
floppy.

Data-Entry/SHM Tools
Q1.
When I click on the SHM Reminder icon, nothing happens?
A1. If you click on the SHM
Reminder Icon from the Smart Home Manager group and all you see is a SHM screen flash,
that means that you do not have any Reminders for the day. You will only see a SHM
Reminder screen if there are reminders for the day.

Q2.
Pop-Up Calculator/Calendar - When I click on it nothing happens?
A2. In order for you to use
the Pop-up Calculator/Calendar, you must first select a record or create a new record.

Q3.
Why can't I get into a field to enter records in a screen?
A3. Before you can start
entering records and data into a field, you must first select an existing record or create
a new record by clicking on the New Record button from the Navigational Bar.

Printing Reports & Graphs
Q1.
Why do the graphs in my Financial Picture not correspond to the Dollar amounts?
A1. In order for SHM graphs
to work, you must have Microsoft Graph already installed in your system. If you do not,
the graphs will not correspond to the dollars.

Misc./Other
Q1. How do I
retrieve my Password if I have forgotten it?
A1. If you have not entered
any data into SHM, then simply re-install SHM and you can re-enter a new password. By
re-installing SHM, you will loose any data you have entered. Therefore, only do this if
you don't care to retrieve any information you have entered.
If you have been using SHM and have information in it, Send a question to SHM Technical
Support. You will be asked to send some files to us in order for us to
retrieve that information. There may be a charge associated to this service.

Q2. Some of the
SHM screens do not fit into the Monitor?
A2. Your computer video
drivers are probably setup in a VGA mode. Simply change the configuration to a SuperVGA
from your Windows Setup and that should resolve the problem.

Q3. My Hard
Drive got corrupted. Is there any way of getting SHM back?
A3. If you have a tape
backup, simply restore the information from it. Otherwise, consult a "disk
recovery" company that will try and save as much as information as possible. You will
need to restore all information in your SHM directory.

Q4. How do I
backup One or more of the Household Databases?
A4. SHM currently does not
offer the option to back up selected databases withing the Household Module. We are
looking into having this feature in our next release.
Work-Around
You can use a backup software (or use Windows Copy Features) to backup individual
Household Database files. To backup a particular Household Database, simply copy all the
files listed within the particular section. The files listed below will be stored in the
directory that you installed SHM. By default this directory should be C:\Program Files\Surado\Surado Smart Home Manager 3.0\.
For example, to backup your entire Address/Telephone Section, copy all the
files listed under Address Telephone below. When copying/backing up files, make sure you
include the asterisk "*" as shown below:

Error Messages
Q1. What do
I do when I get an Error Message?
A1. If you get an Internal
Error message, click on the Exit/Continue button and SHM will automatically close itself.
An internal error occurs when the system has inconsistencies. Most of the time, the
problem is fixed by exiting out of SHM and login back on. However, if you keep getting an
Internal Error, Send a question to SHM Technical
Support..

Financial Module
Q1. How do I
reprint a check?
A1. To reprint a check,
simply bring up the check from the Banking Account. Next, click on the Print button with
an icon of a single check.

Q2. How do I
void a check?
A2. Simply create a
transaction with a Zero dollar amount with the appropriate check number and save the
record.

Q3. How do I

A3. If you are making your
payment from the Payment Screen under the Expense Module, simply select your income source
fro the Income Type pull-down pick list. If you are entering payments from the Banking
Account, after saving the record (writing a check), go to the Expense/Payment Screen and
bring up the last record. Next, update the record with the appropriate Income Source from
the Income Type pull-down pick-list. By linking Income Sources to expenditures, you will
be able to run Expenditure reports that pertain to a certain Income Source.

Q4. When I
